The origins of Primrose Herd lie in the hills of West Cornwall where, since 1999, our herd of rare and native breed pigs have been reared slowly and non-intensively. In this spot equidistant between both Cornish coasts, our pigs spend lots of time in the great outdoors, admiring the mine stacks which dot this World Heritage Landscape.
Over the years we've formed relationships with other farmers and smallholders who share our values of natural, slow growth, with plenty of space and freedom to roam. We believe this traditional farming ethos results in excellent marbling in the meat and a great flavour, and we’re very proud to have won many national awards as testament to our approach.
As the business expanded, we moved our butchery off the farm to new modern facilities in Newham on the outskirts of Truro. We now also source other high quality West Country meats - including beef and turkey - as we expand and diversify our butchery offering.
Nestled in the heart of Cornwall, Truro, the Primrose Herd is a proudly family-run business with deep farming roots. Once known for their own unique breed of pigs raised on their farm, they built a reputation for producing exceptional pork, rich in flavour and quality.
Over time, their passion and skill have grown into a traditional butchery, where they now offer a full range of meats, each prepared with the same care and dedication that made their pork so sought-after. With numerous awards celebrating the quality of their cuts, the Primrose Herd continues to combine heritage, craftsmanship, and family values to bring the very best to their customers’ tables.
